Social Event – Festival of Archery 2022

Dear Members

As most of you know we have a “Festival of Archery” on Sunday 10th July from 10am to 4.30pm at Wilton Fields.

There are 2 parts to this event,

1 – The public can show up from 10am onwards, have a go at target archery, have a chat with members and look at various types of bows etc. This is to attract new members to the club, therefore increasing our numbers, to offer more social events to members and promote archery in general.

We would like to be able to demonstrate target archery, field archery and possibly clout.

We need volunteers for this event, mostly to demonstrate archery, talk archery, show people a selection of different bow types and help keep everyone safe. We are setting up from 9am and any assistance will be much needed and appreciated.

2 – For the members a handicapped Warwick shoot (and a picnic lunch) are to be held, so we can have a bit of fun with a friendly shoot and enjoy a “snack” lunch.

For new members, A Warwick shoot is 2 dozen arrows at one distance (say 30yds) and 2 dozen arrows at a shorter distance (20yds). There are many different Warwick rounds from 100yds / 80 yds to 20yds / 10yds, so a good round for all to try. (See the members website for more details and all available rounds.)

This shoot will also help new members gain a classification. Three scored rounds are required to be submitted for a classification to be issued.

We have some restrictions on distances available as we have a limited number of bosses (3 are being used for the public). I suggest we have 1 @ 50 yds, 2 @ 40 yds, 2 @ 30 yds and 1 @ 20 yds for the first distances. Then just bring them forward for the second distance. We will need to space them out well so up to 4 people can fit on the shooting line for each target. We may go double detail, depending on numbers. There will be plenty of time, subject to English weather.

IF you would like to take part in the Warwick shoot, please let us know via the usual methods before Saturday 9th July. Space may be tight at some distances so please let us know what distance you want to start at.

We intend to start the Warwick shoot at 11am, shoot the 1st 2 dozen, break for lunch, then shoot the 2nd 2 dozen at 1pm. Times dependant on how we get on and if it is a nice sunny day to stand around and chat.

As always with a club picnic, please bring some food to share. This way there is a good variety of foods for members to enjoy and to try different foods.

For new members, we tend to put all the food on a table (trolley) and help ourselves at lunch. There is usually plenty to go round. For people with specific food requirements / intolerances, please do not help yourself to the general food table for obvious safety reasons.
