Beginners courses are now on our new booking system. Booking is subject to availability. Payment is taken at the time of booking by credit/debit card via paypal. You do not need a paypal account to use this service.
If we cancel any lesson due to bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, we will reschedule. We cannot guarantee to give any notice on cancellations due to bad weather or unforeseen circumstances, but will always try to give as much notice as possible.

Where do you hold your lessons?
May to September, we are on the sports field at Whitgift Academy in Grimsby and October to April, we are in the sports hall at the same school. We do have other practise venues, but they are not currently available for beginners lessons.

I've never done archery before. Are your lessons suitable for me?
The lessons are suitable for most people over the age of 10 and adults of all ages who can follow simple instructions. Most people who do our course have never done archery before, or have had a taste of archery at school, on holiday or at scout/guide camps etc and want to try a bit more.
Do children have to be accompanied by an adult?
Juniors under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult and cannot be left alone without the express permission of the club. The adult doesn't have to take part, as long as they say "my my, that's good" and "well done" at the appropriate points. Non participating adults might want to bring a folding chair or something comfortable to sit on.
What will I learn from your lessons?
On our lessons, you will learn to shoot safely and effectively with a basic archery technique. You'll also learn about scoring systems we use and the different types of bow used for pleasure and competition today and even the different types of archery. You didn't know there are different types of archery? You do now!
Are the lessons taught by qualified coaches?
Our lessons are lead by qualified Archery GB UKCC coaches who have completed enhanced DBS (new name for CRB checks) checks through Archery GB. Our coaches may be assisted by experienced archers from time to time.
I've got a big garden. Will I be able to practise at home?
Although I am often asked, back gardens are usually not suitable for practicing archery. Bows and arrows are weapons designed to kill the enemy or animals for lunch (neither allowed in the UK). Hedges, fences and even brick walls will not stop arrows, which could present a danger to any people or animals beyond the end of your garden. Our shooting ranges are the length of one and a half football fields for a reason. Much better to do your archery in a safe place designated for the practice of archery, with like minded people, qualified coaches and appropriate insurance.
Do I need to buy any equipment?
As I said, the lesson fee includes use of all the equipment you need for the lesson, so do not rush out and spend lots of money on archery equipment. Archery equipment has to be tailored to suit the person using it. You cannot buy good archery equipment locally and you should avoid eBay at all costs. Ignore this and you may waste your money and even injure yourself or others. Once you have joined the club,

Indoors or outdoors, avoid clothing that is too baggy or has long tapes/ties that could get caught in the bowstring.
Is your venue wheelchair friendly?
Our fields are as wheelchair friendly as most school playing fields can be. During the winter we use the sports hall which is somewhat better.
Do I have to be fit to do archery?
Archery is a very inclusive sport that most people can take part in. It is your responsibility to disclose any health conditions that may affect you, or affect your ability to participate, in confidence to your coach or a club official
Does it matter that I am a vegan?
Vegetarians, please note that our field archery section do shoot at life size foam replicas of animals and paper images of animals, though no real animals are ever hurt during our practice sessions. Bow hunting is illegal in the UK. People with food allergies or intolerances, we occasionally have club picnics and celebrate events such as members birthdays with cake and other food provided by our members and their families. These foods may contain nuts, wheat, milk, shellfish, meat, dairy, gluten and other substances that people could be allergic to or have intolerances of. If in doubt please check and if necessary, avoid consuming.
